*Rose Moreno is kneeling in a greenhouse surrounded by small, fresh flowers.*
[Rose:] "Twelve years ago, I walked into the office of Coach Carter and asked her for one thing: a chance.
A chance to be judged on my own merits, apart from my sister's infamous legacy.
A chance to exceed my own accomplishments, apart from an upbringing that limited me.
Most of all - a chance to wrestle on the most prestigious roster of all time.
Jean gave me all of that and more - she gave me a sense of belonging and value that I never had before.
She even gave me formal credit for helping to save OG-Joshi from my sister."
*Rose glances to the side with a pained look on her face.*
[Rose:] "But I don't really see it like that. I do admit to playing a helpful role in pressuring Ruby to give Visper Karr a fair rematch for the OG-Joshi World Championship that Ruby stole. I'm not discounting that, but it didn't really save OG-Joshi. And I guess I helped keep OG-Joshi far enough from Ruby's hands that she was willing to pay top dollar for it to the Walkers, which helped pay Robin's medical bills. I'm truly thankful for that, and for the holiday baskets I receive every year from the Walkers. But again, looking at the facts, it didn't save OG-Joshi. After all, Geese sold it directly to Ruby."
*Rose sighs and picks a flower from the ground.*
[Rose:] "I also didn't save my own career. I waited year after year but nothing changed. My sister, for all of her faults, is a woman of her word. She made good on her threat to me: I would never be given a match in her OG-Joshi and she used her increased influence to pressure the Reyes from letting me wrestle in L.A.W.L. My career was effectively over.
Year after year I approached her but she shut me out. All of the contempt she had for me as kids increased ten-fold by the role I played helping Jean. I regret nothing, of course. Then I pleaded with Marie Reyes, my mentor and trainer, but she grew increasingly erratic and simply disappeared. L.A.W.L. couldn't run shows without Destiny's funds so I was dismissed.
But it wasn't just the supposed savior who suffered: It was the saved too. Anyone watching knows that Ruby kept OG-Joshi on a tight leash and would primarily feature her and her friends. When it came to the milestone events run in Destiny's name to impress the world, she would trot out the big OG-Joshi guns and pretend like she was running it in good faith. But every other day it wasn't treated with the half the respect that it was by Jean Carter. It wasn't the real OG-Joshi."
*Rose plucks another flower and smells it.*
[Rose:] "Ironically it took a truly 'debased' action to bring it back to life. After the chop heard around the world from my impulsive sister, Jean Carter breathed her heart and soul back into OG-Joshi. The Walkers rewarded her loyalty by giving it to her. I was watching from home and cried all night just for Jean. I don't think I've ever been happier for another human being than I was that night. OG-Joshi was now in the hands of it's true savior."
*A hint of life appears in Rose's eyes.*
[Rose:] "It took me a few days until it even hit me. Maybe I wouldn't have to wait anymore either. Maybe the OG-Joshi that I crawled to years ago would finally be whole enough to accept a broken person like me. Like so many other wretched fools on December 31st 2019, I was hopeful that the next year would be the best year of my life."
*Rose begins pulling out the rest of the flowers surrounding her.*
[Rose:] "But that was not to be and it's three years later. Even Jean Carter, the strongest person I've ever met, had to sit watching hope grow barren as the world cocooned itself. Then suddenly, a sign of life.*
*Rose points over to a field where one single rose has grown.*
[Rose:] "Budding talent arrives that focuses the imagination and passion of our Coach. Matches resume while past and future Champions sing the song of a new spring for OG-Joshi. Life returns to our paradise. They say you can't go home again but I say you can bring home with you where ever you go, even into the future.
OG-Joshi is back and I cried when Jean called me last week saying she wanted me on the next show. 'Spring Fling' she's calling it - it was absolutely the best moment of the last few years of my life. Why me, I asked? Because it was finally time to start my life in OG-Joshi the way I deserved to, she said.
So I made a request: If I get to start my OG-Joshi life out from under my sister's thumb, so should someone else. Megan Williams - Ruby's former right hand woman, has worked so hard over the past few years to be her own person. Is she still friends with my sister? Yes, but they are finally friends. Equals. Yes, what happened to my sister here in 2019 has slowly changed her. You can credit Robin Walker for starting that but, I must admit - my sister deserves credit for continuing that journey. She and I have even begun established the seeds of a relationship again. I even told her I wanted Megan along with me for this moment and she agreed. I know how Megan's career has developed and it's finally time for her to show everyone what she can do. So at Spring Fling, we each get to start anew. Year after year, my hope re-blossomed only for it to go back into the dirt. But this time, the sun shines strongly and I wish to bask in it.*
*Rose lifts her face upward as the sun shines in through the greenhouse.*
