Hello all! 🙋♂️
OG-Joshi officially debuted with its first match in March of 2005 on the OG-FPD "Murderer's Row" PPV. It took months of planning and coordination before and after that match to get OG-Joshi running and turn it into its own promotion. And despite running for 6 years, I shut it down in late 2011 along with UBL and LAWL. A year later, I brought UBL back but have not done anything with OG-Joshi. So, in many ways, it's in a similar state now as it was then. Much like OG-Joshi debuted as a part of the male OG-FPD, it has now been re-awakened through its character and story connection to its brother promotion: UBL. Of course, much like OG-Joshi completely eclipsed OG-FPD, it's return can do the same to UBL as well! But we prefer mutual support 😎
The canon explanation: Ruby Moreno, the owner of OG-Joshi since buying it from Geese in 2011, got duped by the Orochi Army after the main event of the UBL October Debased show. This triggered a clause in the original contract, forcing Ruby to sell OG-Joshi back to Robin Walker, representing a Geese of not entirely sound mind. Robin then gifted it to Jean Carter, who now becomes the owner of OG-Joshi for the near and forever future.
The RL explanation: I've been waiting for years to have Jean Carter become the true owner of OG-Joshi. This was one of the main reasons I even brought UBL back: to tell this story and lead to this result. However, I did not necessarily intend on relaunching OG-Joshi as a full promotion. I was initially satisfied with the canon acknowledging Jean as owner from here on out, whether I did something further with the promotion or not.
Then a funny thing happened. Spurred by a reaction post by October Raven, many of the pillars of OG-Joshi expressed their hopes and desire to see it return.
So here we are and are we here? Yes, we are here as I am currently writing and you will soon be reading this. Any questions of OG-Joshi's return shouldn't shake your confidence in basic reality!
But the real question is how we relaunch OG-Joshi and in what form it is desired and possible.
A few thoughts before I start brainstorming options.
- My free time is kind of plummeting once again so I'm definitely not expecting to run OG-Joshi shows as frequently as I did during its prime. On that note, I'm also not expecting to run UBL next year anywhere close to how much I did for it this year. Even before OG-Joshi discussions came back, I was planning on scaling back the frequency and length of UBL shows for 2020. I was also planning on taking a 3 month break after "ALL YOUR BASE" to give myself time to do some stuff and plan for UBL's next tour.
So OG-Joshi will be very limited in that sense if I'm the only real content producer.
Furthermore, I've always believed that the e-fed that plans conservatively can deliver consistently. I want to avoid burn-out. So even if we started with something modest like 2 big shows a year and spent the rest of the time building like hell to those shows, it would have a regular pace and even be a success if people truly enjoy it. I don't mind having a light first year if we can get everything done that we want and not feel over-extended. And people can always do more via RP than I initially plan for shows. So even a light show schedule has the potential to still allow people to do as much as they want on an individual RP basis.
However, that begs the question: How much should I even produce? Thing is, I know that just about anyone else who gets involved in the OG-Joshi relaunch already has their own feds to manage. OG-Joshi is gonna stay second to me with UBL leading the way for multiple reasons (including lack of OG-J edits made in FPW). Maybe the answer here isn't for me monopolize the creation of OG-Joshi shows. Maybe we share the workload?
I can say that I'm good for two bigger OG-Joshi shows next year. I could do a full relaunch show sometime in the Spring. Then I could add OG-Joshi back as an equal contributor to the OG-FPD 12/13 show. The first OG-Joshi match back, under MJC's ownership, will actually be Robin vs. Ruby this 12/13 show. It's fitting after all.
So let's say I do two OG-Joshi shows. Would others be up to run even one show per year? Would storytelling even really work that way? I don't know. These are just ideas. I don't intend on making any big choices right now. I really am just looking for your input and discussion. OG-Joshi has a ready-made audience and I'm expecting the majority of that audience to really be its contributors. So what are you guys interested in? Especially if I can't run more than two big shows. Certainly, two OG-Joshi shows in 2020 is two more shows more than any year since 2011. But if everyone is excited about OG-Joshi's return, would it be kind of anticlimactic if I only did two shows even if we all built to them via RP's?
Also, I have not given any real thought as to who the Champions still are. So I think the thing to do would be to just vacate all of them. That way we avoid the issue of legacy champions whose handlers may not be able to join us in the relaunch AND we get a fresh start. I'm not sure if Moto will be rejoining us due to time issues but I also feel very uncomfortable thinking that Visper lost the Title over the past 8 years given the role she played. It may be easier to just do a total clean slate and only have active OG-Joshi wrestlers to be considered for matches or titles. And that "active list" isn't limited to our old roster either. You can bring in new wrestlers that weren't in OG-Joshi before, most certainly. I don't see a lot of my third strike OG-J wrestlers returning as anything other than "FPR -> FPW port" enhancement talent but not all of them are even necessarily going to come back at all.
So yeah, let me know what you guys want to do here. I want to make sure this project has long term legs to it but also have enough energy so that we want it to continue long term. I'm happy giving up some creative control if it means there's more life around here. Here are just a few options:
1) I run things as I have before and we aim for one relaunch show in the Spring and full OG-Joshi participation in next year's 12/13 Anniversary show. The rest of the time we RP to build to the planned matches and maybe I can post some video "Access Matches" for OG-Joshi to fill in some of the time between the shows.
2) We run more shows overall with your direct involvement. This is essentially my plan for the FPCPP years ago (which, admittedly, did not succeed). I would be the head booker and plan the 2 big shows. All other shows would be run by you after being approved by me. That way we keep some continuity between all of you as to Champions and overall storylines. There are (at least) two options for how to do this:
----- 2A) Those shows would involve matches from all divisions. So if let's say DK books the April show, that could have any of the Titles defended without a specific roster from any Title division chosen. No one would be limited as to who they could use. They could book wrestlers from any title division.
----- 2B) We do the same as above but limit Title divisions to shows that are given to specific people For example: DK could handle the OG-Joshi World Title division and all contention to it. UIG could take over the Amplitude Title and all contention to it, OctRaven could handle the Tag Titles and all contention to it (which could involve singles matches that progress tag match rivalries). Something like that. And all of my shows, as head booker, would contain all Titles defended and any other big main event stories.
There wouldn't be any specific expectations for you in regards to show format or match format. Video, text, pics, some type of hybrid, etc is all fine by me. There's kind of an overload of FPW matches right now in the community and only a small portion of them actually get watched - an even smaller portion of them get fully watched. There's no sense in getting burned out creating matches that have no audience. So if your thing is text or pics, go for it!
I can easily restructure the Board to accommodate areas for specific show creators. I think I may retire the "Voltage" and "Amplitude" names for the time being. For posterity, nostalgia, and continuity, I wouldn't remove those boards. But if we have a different show format, we need new boards as a result. So I could create boards for each Title division or around each creator. If UIG wants to call his shows "Fan-net Fiasco" (a report of shows from the perspective of disgruntled and...gruntled fans) then that would be the board name and he'd post all shows there.
3) OTHER IDEAS SUGGESTED BY YOU, THE VIEWERS AND CONTRIBUTORS!
I want this project to be appealing, accessible, and sustainable for us since we're the main audience.
